Spam & Fraud

As most webmasters would know, spam and fraud are probably the biggest two problems one can have. We here at ez.com.my have also been having this problem for the longest time. Therefore, we have implemented several new features:

1) We have made some modification to the registration system. Users from countries that previously have many, if not all, users that repeatedly posted spam, will have a different method of confirming their registration. Instead of clicking a link on the e-mail sent to them, they will now have to reply to the e-mail indicating the purpose of registering and the types of ads they would like to advertise.

2) Many users register using a fake id and personal information, with the intention of fooling the people. Some have put information such as being from UK, when instead they come from other country. Therefore, to ascertain this, we have placed a “Last login IP location” in every ad, under the seller’s detail section. This will indicate the most likely location from where they log in to their account from.

We understand that the geolocation tool that we used is not 100% accurate. But they claim to have 99.5% accuracy on the country level, which we think is more than enough for this purpose.

If ever you see contradicting information on an ad, for example the seller claims to be from UK but his IP location indicates that he is from Nigeria, please do not proceed any further. We are currently going through all our ads and delete any ads that we think is spam or fraud, or both.

To all our visitors and users, Happy New Year 2010!

Related Ads

You might have noticed that we have added a new “related ads” box at the bottom of the classified ad with the title “You might also be interested in”. It took us a while to create this. Our initial evaluation showed that most of the time it does show ads that are quite related. However, it is still far from perfect and you might still see some non-related ads being displayed. We will constantly monitor it and improve as time go by. We hope that this feature will give more exposure to the seller’s ad. It will reach out to visitors and users who are browsing other ads and give them some options on ads that they might also be interested in.

Other than that, we did some minor layout modification and some enhancements to the search results page.

New Electronics Category

We have just added a new electronics category. This was one of the highest request during our recent poll. We have added about 13 subcategories that we can think of right now, with more to come in the future if there is a need for it. If you have any suggestions for other categories, feel free to contact us or leave a comment below.

Poll Results and Other news

We have been running a poll for just over 3 months. The goal of the poll is to ask our visitors and users which category they were interested in the most. So, here are the results:

1. Others: 30 votes
2. Clothes & Accessories: 26 votes
3. Electronics & Gadget: 25 votes
4. Jewellery: 12 votes
5. Antique & Collectibles: 10 votes
6. Health Products: 10 votes
7. Music Stuff: 9 votes
8. Books: 7 votes

As for the “Others”, it’s hard to tell if they were looking for a category we already have but just couldn’t find the product, or some other category which I am not sure what.

Anyway, we have already added the Clothes, Shoes & Accessories category since the start of the poll. We will be adding more categories soon, based on the results of this poll and some other factors.

Also, we have also reach a important milestone. Some time in December 2008, we’ve registered our 1000th user! Right now, we have over 1100 users. However, many of them just post one or several ads and never posted any since then. Some of them are spammers, which right now it is difficult to tell how many of them.

We constantly monitor the ads that are posted here and will not hesitate to delete any ads that violate our terms & conditions as well as the ad posting guideline. If we missed out any ads that seem dubious or suspicious, please let us know either by clicking on the “Report Ad” link or e-mailing us at feedback [at] ez.com.my. You can also leave a comment here.

Thank you for your support!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

We would like to wish all our users and visitors a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

New Ruling Regarding Foreign & Spammy Ads

We have decided to come up with a new ruling. To protect Malaysian users, which this site is targeted at, we will scrutinize ads that are posted by foreign users. We can trace a user based on the IP that he/she is using when logging on to the site.

Ads that have, but not limited to, the characteristics below will be deleted
1. Users that display false information, including user profile
2. Ads that display prices that are unreasonable or unrealistic
3. Ads that appear spammy, i.e. contains lots of keywords

Our existing rules & guidelines still apply.

We will review all the ads and start deleting them this weekend onwards.

The well being of our Malaysian users will always be top priority.

Thank you.

Happy Deepavali!

EZ.com.my would like to wish all our visitors and users a very Happy Deepavali!

We would be adding new categories very soon. Stay tuned!

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

We would like to wish all our visitors and users Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri – Maaf Zahir dan Batin. For those who are travelling, have a safe journey.

Take Part In Our Poll

As some of you might have noticed, we have launched a poll on the right hand side of most pages. We would like to get feedback on what kind of categories to add. As of today, Clothes & Accessories seem to be getting the highest vote, followed by Antique & Collectibles and Others. We will probably run the poll for about a month. You can only vote for one choice. So what are you waiting for. Join the poll!

Yahoo Mail Users: Read This!

If you used your Yahoo mail during registration, you might not be able to find the e-mail from us that contain a link that you will need to click to confirm your registration.

This is because it is most likely it inside your Spam folder. There might also be some delay (from a few minutes to up to a few hours) in receiving it.

Please check your Spam mail frequently, and remember to click on the Not Spam button to move it to your Inbox. By doing so, it will reduce the likelihood of future e-mails from going to the Spam folder.

This is also true for any other e-mails that we sent out to Yahoo Mail users.

If possible, please try to use other e-mails. So far, we don’t have any issue with Gmail and Hotmail/Live

If you still can’t find the confirmation e-mail, please contact us at feedback [at] ez.com.my or leave a comment below with your username.

Thank you.
